Lohri falls on 13 January in most years, the night before Makar Sankranti, and in 2027 that is a Wednesday. The biggest Lohri in any family is a pehli Lohri: a baby's first, or a newly married couple's first. Those are exactly the nights when a song with the baby's or the couple's name, played at the bonfire and posted on the family group, means more than another remix.
Step by step
- Decide what the song is for: pehli Lohri of a baby, the first Lohri of a married couple, or a family and friends bonfire.
- Write a chorus in Punjabi (Gurmukhi or Roman both work) with the name, and one or two verses: the bonfire, rewri and moongphali, gidda and bhangra, the family coming home.
- Open Create, choose your own lyrics and paste them with [Verse] and [Chorus] tags.
- Set the vocal language to Punjabi.
- Style ideas: "high-energy bhangra, dhol, tumbi, male vocal, Lohri celebration", "folk boliyan style, dholki, group of female voices, call and response" for a gidda feel, or "soft Punjabi folk, algoza, warm" for a baby's Lohri.
- Generate and listen; change one thing at a time if needed.
Lyrics ideas
Write your own lines rather than copying a traditional or film Lohri song: your own words are yours to share, and they can carry the names.
- Baby's pehli Lohri: "Saadi Gudiya di pehli Lohri aayi, / Dadi ne rewri te moongphali vandi, / Agg de kol nachdi saari bhaaji, / Rabb rakhe sada khush saadi Gudiya pyaari."
- Newly married couple: "Simran te Arjun di pehli Lohri, / Vehde vich ronak, dhol di dhamaal, / Saare rishtedaar aaye ne naal, / Jodi salamat rahe hazaar saal."
- Friends' bonfire: name the group, the year and the inside joke in the chorus; keep the verse about the night itself.
Downloading and sharing it
On the free plan you can make the song and play it in your account; downloading it costs ₹9 for that song, and then it is yours to share, including on Instagram and YouTube. Any single payment of ₹99 or more (for example a credit top-up) makes every song you create after it free to download. Pro and Creator download everything.
