Once a song sounds right, the next question is practical: what file do I actually get, and will it work where I need it? Here is every format Autunes gives you, what each one is good for, and how to pick the right one for YouTube, reels, a wedding DJ or a streaming release.
Every format at a glance
What you can take out of Autunes depends on what you made and which plan you are on.
- Full songs: MP3, on every plan that can download the song.
- Lossless FLAC: on Creator, for songs generated while on Creator.
- Stems: six separate tracks (vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, other), each a 256 kbps MP3. Pro and Creator, 5 credits a song.
- MIDI: export a track or stem as MIDI notes for a music program. Pro and Creator.
- Short clips for reels and jingles: MP3 at 320 kbps, WAV at 48 kHz, an iPhone ringtone (.m4r, up to 30 seconds), OGG, a vertical video with a waveform, or a 5x looped MP3 for hold music.
- Lyric videos: a video file in any of 12 styles, full length free on Pro and Creator.
- Karaoke takes: your voice over the band as a WAV file.
MP3: the format that works everywhere
MP3 is a compressed format. It removes sound detail that most people cannot hear in order to make the file much smaller, so a full song is a few megabytes rather than tens. It plays on every phone, laptop, car stereo and speaker, uploads to YouTube and Instagram without trouble, opens in every common video editor, and is easy to share on WhatsApp.
For almost everything a typical creator does, from a YouTube video to a birthday surprise, MP3 is all you need. Listeners on phones and earphones will not hear a difference.
FLAC: lossless, for when quality is the point
FLAC is lossless: it compresses the file without throwing any sound away, like a zip file for audio. It is larger than MP3 but contains the full detail of the original render. Creator keeps a lossless copy of each song made on the Creator plan and offers it as a FLAC download; songs made on other plans, or before you moved to Creator, do not have one.
FLAC matters when you hand a song to a mixing or mastering engineer, when you plan a streaming release and want the best source, when you will process the audio heavily, or when you want an archive copy. FLAC converts to WAV with no loss at all if a program or distributor insists on WAV.
What about WAV?
WAV is uncompressed and the largest of the three. Full songs do not download as WAV, but short reel clips can be exported as 48 kHz WAV, and Karaoke takes save as WAV.
One common misunderstanding: converting an MP3 into WAV does not add quality. The file gets bigger, but the detail removed when the MP3 was made does not come back. If a form demands WAV, that conversion will satisfy it, but the honest route to the best quality is FLAC on Creator.
Which format to use for each job
Matching the file to the job saves time and storage.
- YouTube video or Instagram reel: MP3 into your editor, or a short clip's vertical video export for a quick reel.
- WhatsApp status or family group: MP3.
- Wedding or party DJ: MP3 works on any DJ software; FLAC if the DJ asks for lossless.
- Spotify, JioSaavn or Apple Music release: check your distributor's requirements; many accept MP3, some ask for WAV or FLAC. FLAC from Creator is the best source.
- Remixing in a music program: stems plus MIDI, so you can rebalance parts or replay the melody on another instrument.
- Phone ringtone: the .m4r export for iPhone, or a short MP3 for Android.
Who can download, and how much it costs
Pro and Creator download any song in their account at no extra cost. On the Free plan, listening is free and downloading a song needs its licence: ₹9 in India, US$1.79 or €1.59 elsewhere, which also gives you commercial use of that song forever. If you have paid ₹99 or more in one purchase, every song you make after that payment downloads free.
The same rule covers every way a song's audio leaves Autunes, so an export from a Studio tool is treated like a download.
Bringing audio back in
Formats matter in the other direction too. When you upload your own recording to remix, add layers to, or jam over, Autunes accepts MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A and OGG files up to 50 MB and 10 minutes. You confirm you own the audio or have the rights to use it.
Common mistakes
A few habits lead to avoidable quality loss or confusion.
- Converting MP3 to WAV and expecting better sound.
- Re-saving an MP3 several times in different apps. Each lossy re-encode loses a little more; keep the original download.
- Expecting a FLAC for a song made before moving to Creator.
- Sending a single mixed MP3 to someone who needs to rebalance the vocal, when stems would do the job.
