Vocals are what listeners notice first, and they are where most AI songs fall short. The good news is that most vocal problems are not random. They trace back to a few causes you can control: a vague description of the voice, lyrics that are hard to sing, an arrangement that crowds the singer, or simply settling for the first take.
Here is how to work through each one, with the tools Autunes gives you for fixing a vocal after the fact.
Describe the voice, not just the song
If you say nothing about the voice, you get a generic one. Say who sings, how many voices, and how they deliver the line. Autunes has vocal tags you can add in one click: male vocal, female vocal, duet, choir, rap, soft vocals and powerful vocals. Add a word or two of your own about tone.
Before: 'Hindi love song'. After: 'Hindi love song, soft female vocal, close and intimate, light breathy tone, acoustic guitar'. Before: 'Punjabi song'. After: 'Punjabi bhangra, powerful male vocal with a high open tone, group chorus answering the hook'.
Match the delivery to the genre
A voice that suits one genre can sound wrong in another. A big belting vocal fights a lo-fi beat; a soft, hushed vocal disappears in a loud dance track. Some pairings that tend to work:
- Ghazal or Sufi: warm male vocal, unhurried, with room for long held notes.
- Bhajan or aarti: clear, steady vocal, often with a chorus answering the lead.
- Bhangra and wedding songs: powerful, bright vocals and group shouts.
- Lo-fi and bedroom pop: soft, close, low-energy vocals.
- Rap: say rap explicitly, and give it a beat style such as boom-bap or trap.
- Lullabies: soft female or male vocal, slow, minimal instruments.
Write lyrics that are easy to sing
Most robotic or rushed vocals come from lines that are too long or too uneven. If a line has 18 syllables and the next has 6, the singer has to cram one and stretch the other. Keep lines short, keep lines in the same section roughly even, and break long thoughts across two lines.
Before: 'Dil ki baatein tujhse kehne ko main kab se intezaar kar raha tha yahan'. After: 'Dil ki baatein / kehni thi tujhse / kab se khada hoon / isi raah pe'. Mark your sections with [Verse] and [Chorus] so the melody has places to rise and rest.
Spell words the way they sound, write numbers as words, and avoid chat shortcuts. Each of these removes a chance for the singer to guess.
Leave room for the voice
A crowded arrangement buries the vocal. If you ask for dhol, tabla, synths, strings, brass and electric guitar in one prompt, everything competes for the same space. Two or three instruments give the voice a clear lane. For an intimate song, ask for a sparse arrangement outright: 'just piano and soft strings'.
If you want a big sound, let the verses be lighter and the chorus fuller: 'sparse verses, full chorus with dhol and group vocals'. That contrast also makes the chorus land harder.
Use the richer engine and compare takes
Autunes has two engines. Zori5 Turbo costs 10 credits a song and is fast; Zori5.5 XL costs 15 and gives a richer, more detailed result, which you often hear most clearly in the voice. Free accounts get XL when they paste their own lyrics.
Do not judge a song by one take. Each generation sings the same lyrics a little differently. On Pro you can get up to 2 takes per generation and on Creator up to 3, so you can pick the best voice side by side. On any plan, a variation gives a fresh take of the same song for 5 credits; the Free plan includes one.
Fix one bad line without starting over
Every finished vocal is transcribed and checked against your lyrics, and lines that came out wrong are flagged. On Pro and Creator you have two fixes in the song editor.
- Edit section, 3 credits: select the line, and have just that part re-sung, with the same or new words.
- Auto-fix pronunciation, 10 credits: Autunes listens to the song, finds the lines it sang wrong and re-records them on the same melody. You can also pick up to 5 lines yourself.
- If auto-fix finds nothing wrong, or so much is off that a fresh take makes more sense, the credits are refunded.
Check the vocal on its own
Sometimes a vocal sounds off only because of the mix around it. On Pro and Creator, stems split a song into six parts (vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other) for 5 credits, so you can listen to the voice alone and decide whether the problem is the singing or the music.
If you want the song in your own voice, Creator includes voice clone: record about 20 seconds and hear an Autunes song sung in your voice for 8 credits. It works on songs made on Autunes, not on uploads.
A quick vocal checklist
Run through this before you generate.
- Language picker set to the language you are singing in.
- Voice described: who, how many, what tone.
- Lines short and even; sections tagged.
- No more than three instruments named, or verses kept sparse.
- Plan to compare at least two takes before fixing anything.
