Whether it is a wedding song, a shop jingle or a devotional track for a channel, the choice used to be simple because there was only one option: find a musician. Now there are two, and they are good at different things. This guide compares them honestly, including where Autunes is not the right answer.
What you are actually buying
With Autunes you buy a finished recording. You give an idea or your own lyrics, pick a language and genre, and get a full song with vocals, instruments and mixing, in 50+ languages and 70+ genres, usually in 2 to 4 minutes.
With a musician you buy a person's skill, taste and time. Depending on the project that can mean a composer, a lyricist, a singer, instrumentalists, studio time and someone to mix and master, each of whom may charge separately.
Cost
On Autunes the numbers are fixed. A song costs 10 credits on Zori5 Turbo or 15 on Zori5.5 XL. On Pro (₹599 for 300 credits) that is about ₹20 or ₹30 a song. A 30-second reel jingle costs 3 credits. On the Free plan you get one song free and a ₹9 licence to download it with commercial rights.
A musician's fee varies hugely with experience, city, language, the number of people involved and how many revisions you need. Ask for a written quote that lists what is included: composition, recording, mixing, the number of revision rounds, and the rights you get. Even modest custom work involves people's time over days, so it costs far more than an AI render.
Speed and iteration
Autunes produces a song in minutes, so you can try three genres before lunch. If one line comes out wrong, Pro and Creator can re-sing just that line for 3 credits, and every vocal is checked against your lyrics so wrong lines are flagged. A variation, a fresh take of the same song, costs 5.
A musician needs scheduling, writing, recording and feedback rounds. That takes days or weeks, but each round is shaped by a person who understands what you meant, not just what you typed.
Quality and control
Autunes gives full, mixed songs in many Indian languages, from Bhojpuri and Haryanvi to Tamil and Malayalam, and the paid tools give real control: stems, section edits, remix into another genre, added instrument layers and, Long Forms for chalisa or qawwali, and on Creator, 5-minute songs.
What it cannot give is a specific human voice and interpretation. You cannot ask it to sing like your grandmother sang at weddings, to hold back in the second verse because the bride's father will be crying, or to improvise with a live audience. Pronunciation can slip on unusual names or words, which is why line fixes exist. A skilled musician brings judgement and feeling that you can direct in conversation.
Rights and ownership
Songs made on Autunes Pro or Creator, or licensed for ₹9, are yours to use commercially with no royalty and no credit required. You can release them on Spotify or JioSaavn through any distributor. You must not present them as human-performed.
With a musician, rights depend entirely on your contract. Get it in writing: who owns the composition, the lyrics and the recording, and whether you can use it in ads or on streaming. In India, lyricists and composers who are members of a copyright society such as IPRS may keep certain royalty rights even after a buyout, so discuss this up front if you plan wide commercial use.
When Autunes is the better choice
Autunes fits when speed, budget or volume matter more than a particular person.
- Music for regular YouTube videos, reels and podcasts.
- Personalised songs with names: birthdays, anniversaries, wedding entries.
- Jingles and short ads for a small business.
- Devotional songs, aartis and bhajans in regional languages.
- Demos and drafts to test an idea before investing in a studio.
- Learning songs for classrooms in the local language.
When a musician is the better choice
Be honest with yourself about these cases; Autunes is not the right tool for them.
- You need a live performance, at a sangeet, a concert or a corporate event.
- You want a specific singer's voice or a recognisable artist.
- You are building a music career and want work you can present as your own human performance.
- The client contract requires human-made music or warranties about copyright.
- You want deep collaboration over weeks, with a person shaping the song with you.
The hybrid route
Many people get the best of both. Draft the song on Autunes to settle the lyrics, tune and mood, then take it to a musician as a reference, which saves paid studio hours. Pro and Creator give stems and MIDI export, so a musician can lift the melody straight into their own software.
For example, a couple writes their story into lyrics, makes a Punjabi wedding song on Autunes for the save-the-date video, and books a live singer to perform it at the sangeet. A café owner makes a 30-second jingle for 3 credits for Instagram, and hires a musician later only if the brand needs a full campaign song.
